“I was only 40 years old and I had lost control of my life. My obesity had become a monster. I weighed 650 pounds with no hope of getting my life back. I had been a truck driver, but work was out of the question. I couldn’t even walk—or roll over in bed. I suffered from a variety of chronic conditions, including hyperlipidemia, peripheral vascular disease, and chronic venous disease.
I was determined to turn my life around. But, clearly, I could not do it on my own. I needed help—and a lot of it! And I found it at Ellicott Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing. A team of physical and occupational therapists, nutritionists, nurses and social workers designed an intensive program of exercise, therapy and prescribed meal plans customized to my life and needs. They are so knowledgeable, enthusiastic and passionate about their work—and their optimism rubbed off on me. They made me believe I could get better!
They helped me lose over 100 pounds and counting, and I’m now able to use a walker and even climb stairs. I’m thrilled to be back home. My goal is to continue losing weight, lose the walker, and one day go back to work. My thanks go out to the team at Ellicott Center. They were—and are—my inspiration!”
