After a series of falls, I was admitted to the Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx. I was eager to get back home, but I was very weak and was transferred to Northern Metropolitan for recovery and rehab. After a month of working with the therapists, I learned, in consultation with my doctors and family, that the risks to me were too great to live independently.
Sure, I was disappointed at first, but working with all the departments—Recreation, Therapy, Nursing and Dietary—I have slowly but surely reached my goals. I ‘m so happy here: this is my home now.
I feel safe at Northern Metropolitan. My family loves to visit the staff, and I enjoy talking to the other residents. They must enjoy my company, too: last January I was elected President of the Resident Council!
